Home : Tupuārangi
Tupuarangi is conceptualised at the site through an association with manu (birds) as a fundamental feature of Ngai Tahu culture and practice. The hua (fruits) of the sky – birds, insects, berries – are the inspiration for this pou, with Hakuwai, the foreboding bird of local korero (legend) as the key visual expression. The pou is also shaped to house the hautapu ceremony, the offering of bounty from the various terrestrial realms of Matariki to the heavens above.
The pou was meticulously crafted from steel, using designs and sketches contributed by talented artists James York and Keri Whaitiri. This durable material ensures that the pou can withstand various environmental conditions, guaranteeing that it will be a long-lasting and cherished addition for everyone to appreciate.
As in any project of this scale Art Fetiche can provide a range of services and specific applications to enhance the final outcome. With skilled in house operators and state of the art tech, we add value to the over all impact of a project.
